Dr. Suzanne Guerin Herold, M.A., M. Phil recently earned a Ph.D. in Liturgical Studies and Sacramental Theology from The Catholic University of America. Suzanne’s doctoral dissertation explored the evolution of the role of relics in the Rite of Dedication of a Church and an Altar. A resident of Florham Park, Suzanne will be joining us this fall to share insights into the liturgical life of Church with our parish. All of the presentations will begin at

September 28, Dr. Herold will present “Constantinople, Chaucer, and Compostela: Pilgrimage in the Christian World.” From the fourth century pilgrim Egeria to the medieval travelers on the path to Canterbury, This talk will explore the evolution of pilgrimages in the Christian tradition. It will delve into the motivations of pilgrims throughout the ages, discuss pilgrimage destinations, and offer insight into the value of pilgrimage in contemporary Christian life.

October 12, Suzanne will offer “Call Me, Maybe: Communicating with God and the Sanctification of Time.” This presentation will center on the Liturgy of the Hours, tracing the development of the Hours as communal and monastic prayer. We will then examine various types of prayer in Catholic life and how our understandings of time can be influence by prayer.

November 30, Dr. Herold will share a look into the Church’s liturgical year, “Holy Days and Holidays.” As we prepare for Advent, this presentation will include a discussion of the Church’s liturgical calendar, colors, the celebration of feast days, and the pre-eminence of the celebration of the Paschal Mystery of Christ in the liturgical year.
